Walking Tours

Take a free guided walking tour with Mary Heritage or another of Maryborough's local guides. The one and a half hour tour highlights the heritage of the City Centre and Portside Precinct and departs from City Hall Monday to Saturday at 9am.*

Hear rollicking tales that bring light and life to historical facts and sights. Commencing at the City Hall amongst stories of aspiring thespians and condemned prisoners and hangmen, your guide will lead you around the City centre, into the glorious Queens Park and finishing at the historic Portside precinct.

The right mix of history and humour makes the free walking tour a must for visitors to Maryborough.

Highlights of the tour include:

  • Visit the Bauer Wiles Memorial Fountain, a tribute to the nurses who gave their lives whilst nursing patients during Australia's first and only outbreak of the Pneumonic plague.
  • stop to examine stainless steel etchings in the Town Hall Green, each a replica of original illustrations by Mary Poppins author, PL Travers;
  • admire the beautifully restored St Mary's Catholic Church with its carved sandstone altars;
  • see the old watch house with its windowless cell;
  • pass an old air raid shelter left over from the days Maryborough built most of Australia's war ships;
  • admire the heritage listed botanical gardens of Queens Park - the site of much of Maryborough's early history.

*Tours are weather dependant.
