Featured on Maryborough's Walk and Drive Tour - There have been three fire stations in Maryborough. The first fire station was a simple shed run by volunteers. The second was located where the Commonwealth Bank now stands in Adelaide Street. This station also included a Fire Tower where a fire watch was maintained. By the 1890s, the fire fighting plant was the best that could be obtained. The Fire Tower was dismantled in 1942 when it became unsafe and obsolete. The third and current was built in 1951 on the site of the first primary school. The worst fire Maryborough faced was in 1876 when one whole city block was destroyed.
