Whales and BeachesHervey Bay to Burrum Heads Leaving Maryborough via the Maryborough- Hervey Bay Road, travel the 25 minutes to the beautiful beaches of Hervey Bay. Once you arrive, the Esplanade is 'where it's at' - for 16kms, the Esplanade hugs the seaside and is fringed for much of its length by a walk-cycle track. There is an alfresco atmosphere along parts of the Esplanade, with modern outdoor cafes and restaurants. Rent a bike and ride along the foreshore to the botanical gardens, the bustling boat harbour and marina or the scenic pier - that's just one of the many options. From the marina, catch the barge over to Fraser Island for a day or take a whale-watching trip from July to November. Head toward Toogoom for some extra relaxation and enjoy pristine beaches, great fishing, wildlife and bird watching. From here, travel on to Burrum Heads where you can explore rivers and creeks by boat or canoe. Unwind in the clear, warm water or enjoy some fishing. From here, travel towards the Bruce Highway and turn off towards Torbanlea. Visit the Burrum Mining Museum for an insight into the history of the area when the coal mining industry was driving the local economy.
