Heritage Cycle RideStart outside Brennan and Geraghty's Store Museum in Lennox Street. Turn right into Ann Street and cycle down to Ululah Lagoon and the Maryborough Golf Course. Turn left onto the cycle path and follow it around to Queen Street. Continue to the end, turn left past historic Baddow House. At the end of the road follow the path along the riverbank to the Original Maryborough Site. Leaving the site, cycle along Aldridge Street. Turn right into Alice Street and left at Russell Street. Cycle over the railway line and turn right into Kent Street. Follow to Yaralla Street and turn left, noting the historic buildings in the Base Hospital on your left. At North Street turn right and stop to check out the window displays at Olds Engineering Works. Turn left into Ferry Street and right into Churchill Street, following it to the end. Here is Point Lookout where signal fires were lit in the mid 1800s to alert the town when ships were coming upriver. Retrace your path to Lennox Street, turn left at the Brolga Theatre. Follow the road down to the Sailing Club where you can turn right and cycle through Queens Park or turn left and follow the riverside path to the Mary River Parklands. If you cycle through Queens Park, turn into Richmond Street at the Court House and cycle down one block to the statue of Mary Poppins. Retrace your path to Wharf Street and turn right for the Mary River Parklands - note the superb heritage buildings and museums in this street. After the Parklands turn up March Street. Cross Kent Street to the Engineers Arms and look up Bown Street - nearby is the old Gasworks and in the distance is EDI Rail - formerly Walkers Engineering Works founded in the mid 1800s. You will also see the sheds of Walker's former shipyards where many ships including Navy vessels were built. Follow March Street through to Ann Street and turn right, continuing down to Lennox Street and turn right to be back at your starting point. Distance Guide:approximately 14km |
